It is no secret that the ’68 Mustang Fastback is one of the most popular cars of its era. This ’68 is a great example with a very impressive pedigree. To start off with this is a true GT with the S-Code 390 option. With the paint & trim options this car is listed as 1 of only 8 produced.
Beyond that it sports a well appointed Décor interior with both upper & lower consoles, fold down rear seat and a tachometer.
With a freshly rebuilt engine & transmission and a restored interior, this Mustang is ready for duty.
This Mustang is in good condition thanks to a life lived indoors since the early 80’s. The paint still presents well but this is a 30+ year old paint job, it appears that there has only been one repaint since new. There are imperfections but the
car shows nicely with a deep glossy shine. The quarter panels, doors and fenders appear to be in good condition.
The floors are the originals and have been cleaned and repainted in the correct Red Oxide paint. The interior has been nicely restored. The carpet, door panels, seat upholstery, dash bezels and more have been replaced with quality reproduction components.
The original headliner is still in place along with the upper console. The rear seat of course is the desirable fold down unit. The dash houses the rare factory tachometer that still functions, though the accuracy appears to be a bit off.
Initially, the 390 was removed and stored when he bought it. A 289 was put in place for insurance reasons. While in storage water ended up in a few cylinders somehow and the block was rusted beyond repair. A new block was sourced and completely rebuilt with a slightly larger camshaft, new valves, valve springs, locks, retainers, hardened valve seats, pistons and more. The engine has a warranty that will transfer to the new owner.
The numbers matching transmission was also rebuilt and works well. The factory GT manifolds were attached to a
correct H-Pipe then a 2 ½” Flowmaster kit was installed and capped with factory stainless steel tips. The car sounds great.
The tires & wheels have very low miles on them. They are 17” Torque Thrust II’s with Toyo Tires. They look and fit very well. If you prefer the factory 14” Chromed Styled Steel Wheels we have those available as well.
