There is no secret that the 67/68 S-Code Fastbacks are among the hottest of all Muscle Cars. We get them in and they seldom even make it to the website before they are snapped up. This 68 GT is an incredibly rare commodity these days. Many of them have already been shipped overseas and those that are left get heavy competition when they do come available.
This ’68 sits in between the $25k complete projects and the $75k restored cars. The paint is older and has plenty of imperfections but is still presentable. The panels line up well and the car has a good healthy look. There are the normal bubbles behind the tires and the front door corners, but nothing scary or out of the normal. The floors look good and with a light clean the factory red oxide primer shows very well. The frame rails are nice & straight, spot welds are clean and again, just a quick wipe and the red oxide still looks fresh.
Inside the factory black interior has been upgraded to Décor trim with wood-grain trim. The seat upholstery is in excellent condition and the interior presents like a very fresh restoration. The floor console is a nice option that is in great condition. The instrumentation package includes a Factory Tachometer that work properly.
Under the hood the 390 has been upgraded with an Edelbrock Performer Aluminum Intake Manifold that not only produces more power but weighs about 60lbs less than the factory intake manifold. The factory exhaust manifolds & engine bracketry are all present. The engine runs excellent and has plenty of tire-spinning torque.
This car was originally ordered with a 4-Speed Manual Transmission. The car was converted to an automatic some time ago. The conversion was complete and other than the Marti Report and door tag, there are no other obvious signs of the conversion. The C6 Automatic Transmission goes into gear quickly and shifts properly.
The Factory Power Front Disc Brakes work nicely with just the right amount of assist and a confident pedal. The Factory Power Steering is precise & makes driving this Big Block a cinch in the tightest of parking lots.
The Factory Heavy Duty 9” 3.25 Traction-Lock Differential has low miles on a rebuild. The ‘Posi’ works nicely and does its best to keep both tires planted.
