It’s no secret that trucks are among the hottest collectors on the market today. We have all watched in amazement at the skyrocketing prices of the 1st Gen Broncos. The F-Series pickups have long been very affordable favorites and in plentiful supply. Like all things iron, most have begun to fall to the forces of nature with rust prevalent in most of the ranks. To find a rust free example in its original configuration is extremely rare.

This F-150 is an outstanding specimen. With only 1 owner on the title since new and the original dealer invoice, this is what you want to find. The truck is truly loaded with options that are DOCUMENTED in the dealer paperwork. The factory options are easy to document but the dealer add-ons are only documented through that invoice. For a collector or enthusiast, this is GOLD.

To start with, this ‘Ranger’ was optioned nicely. Done in Castillo Red with a ‘Color Keyed’ Red Interior this was already a sharp truck. All the cool boxes were checked at the Ford Factory including Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, Automatic Transmission, Traction Lock Axle, Heavy Duty Cooling Package, Chrome Mirrors, 60 Amp Alternator, Tinted Glass & more. Upon delivery the dealership took the truck even further as specified by the buyer to add Air Conditioning, Custom AM/FM Stereo with CB, Wide Tires, Chrome Rims, Upgraded Chrome Rear Bumper and

Upgraded Shocks Front & Rear. The finished product was a very upscale truck for the day.

Luckily the truck was delivered to Ridgecrest, California where it lived for most of its life. From there it relocated with its original owner where “It only saw snow through the garage windows”. The truck is truly amazing from a preservation standpoint. The undercarriage & components are rust free and truly a rarity among any car of this vintage. This is still the original paint with the exception of the hood that was repainted due to being sun baked in the California heat, oddly it aged far worse than any of the original paint. The factory paint still shines nicely and the truck does present well.

There are thin spots on the roof where the paint has been sun bakes and also where a canopy seal had work the paint on the bed rails and around the back of the cab. The anodized aluminum trim is in amazing condition with and even the rubber inserts are still soft. The bed of the truck is still in great condition with shiny original paint with only minor scratches and imperfections. In order to keep the truck as honest and original as possible we have left these for the next owner to address as they see fit.

The truck has stayed quite original with the exception of some performance improvements. The factory performance of the 360 was marginal to begin with. Hobbled with a 2 barrel carburetor and restrictive ‘Reduced Sound Level Exhaust’ they really didn’t stand a chance. These items were removed and replaced at the dealership with an Aluminum Intake Manifold, Performance AFB Carburetor, Long Tube Headers and Hi-Flow Dual Exhaust. The truck sounds great and the performance of this truck is respectable now. The cylinder heads did receive some freshening back in 1988 consisting of a new valve guide as well as a valve grind. The valve covers still wear their original stickers and what appear to be the original date coded spark plug wires!

The Power Disc Brakes have only 300 miles on their rebuild. They do work nicely and stop the truck confidently. The power steering works nice with just the right amount of assist. Driving on the road the steering is still impressive and the truck tracks nicely.

Overall, this truck still functions well enough for daily driver use. However, with such a well preserved original it would be best served to be a weekend or limited use vehicle. It would even function well as an investment.
