Everyone who grew up in the 60's & 70's has memories of long road trips in these. Fighting with siblings, sitting in the hidden seats and hours of bad music on even worse sound systems. Somehow we remember that with fond memories and love these old beasts. Even the smell of the factory upholstery will take you back. It's crazy how each of the big 3 had their own 'scent'.
The body still wears its original Royal Maroon paint and a sea of simulated woodgrain. The paint has plenty of imperfections but still manages a nice shine. The woodgrain has more of a sun-bleached drift wood look but hey, so do all of you who rode in these as a kid. The chrome has survived well as has the stainless. Nothing is perfect but its all still hanging in there.
Inside, this one is still the original with miles of Corinthian Grained Vinyl. Lots of trim here & there adorned with the LTD script. Just taking a look at the pics gives you an idea of just how many doors & seats it took to haul those baby Gen X'rs. Obviously it's not a restored car, but it does present well with some wear on the front bench seat. Vintage blanket to the recue. Otherwise, it is in surprisingly good condition.
Under the hood still lives that torque rich 390. Still looks much like it did in the 70's, maybe a drip here or there but who's pointing fingers? It does fire up easily BUT it doesn't sound ANYTHING like it did back then. This one has dual exhaust and 2 chamber Flowmaster style mufflers. Even though it exits 20+ feet behind you it has a very authoritative note. Power is still great but this isn't a drag car, its a drag the kids around the country car.
