This is truly an amazing car. Not often do you see a car done to this level with such an attention to detail. Thunderbirds of this caliber are extremely rare. The previous owner built this car with a no expense spared mentality. After he passed away he left a large collection of garage stored high quality cars and this was among the last of the collection to be sold as it was one of his favorites.
The build is several years old but has seen only limited uses since completion. The paint is very nice with a deep shine on very straight panels. The seams line up very nicely. Several custom cues on the car are easy to miss due to how seamless the transition is. The door handles have been removed, top of fender moldings shortened and the fender side moldings modified. The chrome has all been re-plated and looks extremely nice. The value of this car is very much in the details.
The interior has been nicely restored with leather upholstery, new carpet and re-plated chrome throughout. Modern gauges have been installed in the factory locations and a tachometer tastefully installed. The dash houses a custom stereo with back-up camera. Speakers are tastefully mounted in the kick panels and sail panels and are powered by dual amplifiers mounted in the trunk. The system sounds amazing and adds a very high end feel to the car.
The engine not only looks amazing but it sounds great too. It was reported that it is a 428, however we do not have any receipt documentation to prove this. It has tremendous low end torque that would support the claim. The Tri-Power intake supports 3 Holley 2 barrel carburetors working with a progressive linkage.
The Air Cleaner has the rare Thunderbird emblem and a nice polish matching the polished Cal Custom valve covers. Custom Long tube Ceramic Coated Tri-Y Headers were installed to help with all those carburetors up top. The exhaust is a custom build made with Mandrel Bent tubing equipped with an X-Pipe and FlowMaster Mufflers. The combination is very impressive with crisp throttle response, strong torque from off idle on up.
The sound is very impressive with a nice lope to the idle and a very nice exhaust note. The C6 Automatic Transmission works seamlessly with the Gear Vendors Overdrive that replaces the factory tail shaft housing. It is actuated with a dimmer switch on the driver’s floor so actuating it is just a toe tap. The overdrive function makes highway cruising at higher speeds very comfortable thanks to the low RPM’s & well balanced engine.
The rims are a beautiful high end from Intro. They have a highly polished outer rim and spokes with an abraded inner spoke. The more you look at them the more impressive they are. The tires are Nitto 555 Extremes 255 45 17 at all 4 corners. They ride very nicely and grip well in the corners. They are however very overmatched by the engine and tire smoke is never more than a blip on the throttle away.
The suspension has been upgraded very nicely with a larger front sway bar, large rear sway bar and Bilstein shocks. The car rides very nice with a firm & positive feel. When you get into the corners you have a very hard time believing you are in a Thunderbird. The car handles very nicely staying flat in the corners with a nice neutral feel.
