This '78 is a super cool truck with all the authentic style that made them so desirable. This is a factory T code Candy Apple Red optioned truck. The black interior is original as well.
This is a really good looking truck in its factory Candy Apple Red color, bright bumpers, grill and wheels. The stance & height are perfect on 35" tires. It is best described as a no-guilt driver. The body is quite straight and the paint has a nice shine. This is an old repaint with plenty of touch ups and imperfections. If you want a show truck, best be prepared to spend in excess of $100k.
Inside the interior is in pretty good condition. This is the Black 'Custom' trim interior with a woven pattern on the seats. The original upholstery is still in place on the bench seats. The front seat is worn pretty well while the rear is in surprisingly good condition. The front floor mat was replaced with a quality unit from Dennis Carpenter Reproductions, the rear mat is the original. The dash pad also appears to be the original and in good condition. The original headliner is gone, they were only a fiber board. The perimeter trim is there and in good condition.
Under the hood, the 400 has been upgraded with an aluminum 4 barrel intake manifold and an Edelbrock carburetor. It fires up nice and sounds great. The transmission is the New Process 4 speed with a compound low gear. It shifts properly and sounds good without any major gear whines typical of old worn gear sets. The Dana 60 rear & 44 front function properly. The locking hubs work freely.
This truck was optioned to drive with Power Steering and Power Front Disc Brakes. Both work nicely and really make a difference in a vehicle this size.
The tires and wheels are brand new for the build. The wheels are 16x8 all around and the tires are 35 12.50's from Mickey Thompson with raised white letters. It's a great period look and the tires perform quite well while not being too noisy on the highway.
The windshield & gasket were just replaced with a factory Ford Carlite windshield.
These trucks are notoriously rusty and often were used quite hard as work trucks. This truck was luckily treated pretty well so the body is in good condition. It did have some of the typical cab rust above the windshield. The bad metal was removed and professionally repaired with new metal. There was also a small spot at the base of the passenger door post and passenger rear door that were also repaired with metal. There are two small spots on the rear of the bed floor that have not been repaired, see pics. The undercarriage was pressure washed and the frame cleaned up with a wire wheel then painted with a high zinc paint to protect it. There is some surface rust underneath typical of a desert truck though you would be hard pressed to find any original 46 year old 4x4 with less. Overall, this is a very solid example and a great looking truck. Whether you want a driver or something to take to the next level this is certainly a crew to take a look at.
