This is pretty much the Holy Grail of '69 standard production Camaros. Of the Z/28's produced, many are not verifiable due to the lack of X code verification. This Norwood produced car carries the all important X33 code that indicates a high trim (Z21 styling) Z/28. Part of the Rally Sport package was this Z21 trim so this is the first part of verification. This car wears all of the other tell tale signs such as RS specific fenders, punched hole in firewall for the RS vacuum hoses, washer pump on the wiper motor, correctly routed back up lamp wiring, back up lamps in the valance, etc. The combination of options is also quite desirable. The LeMans blue paint is a highly desirable color and paired with the Black interior is extremely nice. This combination of options is a very rare find.
The body on this Z/28 looks great. The paint is older but has not seen many miles. There are some small paint chips that have been touched up but overall the car presents quite well. The panels line up nicely and the trim is overall nice. There are some small imperfections on the bumpers which appear to be the originals.
The interior looks great. The original upholstery, headliner and door panels were getting tired so we replaced them with quality reproductions from PUI. The carpet appeared to be the original and was in pretty good shape so it was retained. The instrumentation all appears to be the original and functions properly.
Under the hood the 302 has been rebuilt and runs excellent. The engine has a reported 1000 miles since a recent rebuild. The forged pistons are audible when cold as stock. The factory flat tappet cam was replaced with a hydraulic roller camshaft. The factory Winters casting aluminum intake is in place. The engine has been upgraded with an MSD Atomic Fuel Injection system that works excellent. It fires up easily in sub-freezing temps, idles like a champ and performs incredibly. Long tube ceramic coated headers and stainless steel exhaust were also installed. This combination sounds extremely good and performs equally. The car has no problem breaking traction at 25 and is incredibly fun to drive.
The Tremec TKO transmission is a 5-speed unit easily capable of handling 500 horsepower. It shifts crisply and has excellent gear spacing. The clutch engages smoothly and has a nice easy pedal effort. The 5th gear overdrive makes freeway cruising a breeze.
The 12-Bolt Posi-Traction unit was GM's strongest offering. This is the BN coded 3.55 ratio unit. It is at home both around town and on the highway now thanks to the Tremec's 5th gear overdrive.
The Rally Wheels are 15" units and have been wrapped in new BF Goodrich Radial T/A's, 225 60's in the front and 245 60's in the rear.
