In 1969 Ford seriously raised the bar for the entire Pony Car segment with the new Mach 1. With a new & aggressive 4 headlight grill, side scoops cut into widened quarter panels, a new fastback specific raked back windshield, kicked up deck lid & end caps, bold hood black-out, reflective side stripes and a cock pit style interior it was a combination that blew the competition away.

 

This Mach 1 was restored back in 2002 by the owner of a body shop in Oregon. Since its completion it has seen both show duty as well as sunny day driving. The Candy Apple Red paint shines very nicely and the panels line up well. The front & rear spoilers combined with the rear window louvers make the car look fast just sitting there. This car also wears the extremely desirable SHAKER Ram Air that pokes through the hood and lets you see the engine rumble at an idle but the true treat is watching the engine torque over while going through the gears. It is extremely cool and NEVER gets old! 

 

The undercarriage is still in beautiful condition from the restoration with nice black chassis paint on rust free floor pans. There is no obvious sign of metal replacement as well. This is a true testament to the craftsmanship of the restoration to have an undercarriage in this condition 15 years after completion.

 

Inside the interior is very impressive. The upholstery is still in very nice condition with very little signs of wear. This is the crowning achievement with the cockpit design. Ford actually lowered the seating position for these cars while giving a more pronounced ‘cockpit’ design to the dash. Even the gauges have their own font on a brushed blue steel back ground. Rich padded door panels, deep ‘comfort weave’ upholstered true high-back bucket seats and rich wood-grain trim are hallmarks of the Mach 1 interior. 

 

Under the hood lives a nicely built 351 Windsor complete with 4 Barrel intake, performance ignition and exhaust. The engine fires up easily and really sounds good. It hits the perfect not-too-loud and definitely not stock tone. The power is typical 351 Windsor with plenty of low end grunt to comfortably pull the 3.25 Ratio 9” Differential. With the Shaker in place it receives a steady flow of cool, high pressure air too. Driving this car is very rewarding.

 

The 4-Speed Toploader Transmission is the Gold Standard of manual transmissions. These 4 speed are extremely tough and shift nicely with the Hurst Competition Plus shifter. Even the modern Tremec transmission is based from the Toploader using the same internals in an aluminum case.

The wheels are reproduction Magnum 500’s in 15” x 7”. They are wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s with 235 60’s in front & 255 60’s in the rear. They look great and fit excellent.
