This '69 SS396 Chevelle is a rare 'Numbers Matching' car. It's not that the production was super limited, its just that without the numbers matching engine there isn't much else besides a build sheet to prove the car's collectability. This car carries the tell tale VIN stamping to prove its authenticity.

From 20 feet this Chevelle is stunning. Upon closer inspection the paint is old, figure 30+ years. There are plenty of scratches & imperfections but still good looking enough for a no guilt driver or the basis for a great restoration. The original paint color was Dusk Blue (very nice dark blue metallic) which is still visible in the trunk & floor pans. The body is overall quite solid. It has the normal rust around the rear wheel openings and lower front fenders. The rear quarters had small flares behind the wheel below the body line, it appears the original metal is buried under them. The trunk, floors and cowl all look quite nice. The filler panel between the trunk and rear window was recently professionally replaced.

The parchment bucket seat interior is as this car came from The General. The bucket seat option is one of the most coveted options as most were bench seats. The interior is in great shape. The seats, carpet and headliner were replaced and look excellent. Receipt documentation provided of the work too. The door panels, seat plastics & dash pad appear to be the originals and still present well with some wear.

The 396 is the original 'born-with' engine. This one started life out as a 325HP manual transmission according to the codes and the VIN is stamped just above the oil filter on the side of the block, see pic. Do your homework as this was a 69 deal. The engine has about 7k miles on a rebuild. It has a nice Comp Cam with a mildly aggressive idle, Performer RPM intake, Holley carburetor, performance ignition with long tube headers & flowmaster exhaust. The power is great, not too much but plenty to turn the tires when needed. The 4 speed Muncie was also rebuilt and works excellent. Out back the 12 bolt has been rebuilt with a Posi-Traction and 3.73 gearing.
