If you made your way down past the pictures & price then you probably have an idea the value and provenance of an R code Fairlane. They are quite scarce with few trading hands. When they do it is typically a six-figure transaction, even for less than perfect cars. This Fairlane is one of the most desirable combinations of color and options. Perhaps one of the most surprising aspects of this car is that it is still wearing its original paint job and sheet metal with the exception of the hood. The floors, quarters, rockers, etc have survived largely without any rust or damage, see pics.

The interior is the rare 500XL with bucket seats and floor console. This is by far the most popular of the Fairlane interior options. The door panels are new reproductions, seat upholstery & carpet are original but new upholstery and carpet are included. The factory dash pad is cracked and the headliner has a tear. The console appears to be in good condition.

The 427 with the car is a side oiler service block with the medium riser heads, dual 4 intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, balancer, adjustable rocker arms, motor mounts and a dual point distributor. The engine was built as a stroker with a 428 crank, forged pistons and Lemans rods. Through some sick turn of fate it was stored outside under a tarp where mice and water invaded. The engine was never ran but the resulting rust pitted a couple of cylinders beyond use requiring either sleeves. A correct date code block would possibly be a better solution. The pistons appear to be fine.

The 4 speed transmission is not the original but is a correct appearing 'Big Input' Super Toploader with a C6OE bellhousing. The original shifter & linkage was not with the car.

The original 3.89 9" center section was also removed so the new owner will need to source their own. The axles appear to be the original 31 spline units.

The Kelsey Hayes disc brakes are still with the car. The calipers were removed but are included.

The factory hood was replaced probably due to a sawsall making room for a bigger air cleaner. Luckily the extremely rare hood bracing was retained and is included with the car. These braces were required to fit the larger air cleaner from the dual 4 carbs and that tall Medium Riser intake manifold. The factory hoods have reportedly sold for over $10k.

These cars are extremely rare. To find an original paint car with original body panels is a rare opportunity.
